Is Skype iPad App Better than Facetime?

Finally, it is now official. Skype has an iPad app!

After the long delay, you will now be able to chat with your iPad. Communicate with your friends and family through voice and video chat even on their Mac or PC.

It was released for a time before getting removed from the App Store momentarily as Skype tweeted their launch too soon. Anyway, since it got good reviews the launch of its app was warmly accepted.

The release of this iPad app will challenge Apple’s own video chat function in FaceTime. I haven’t tried it as of now but according to reports Skype’s video quality is way better than FaceTime. What’s great about Skype is that you can call almost everyone from PCs, iPads, Macs, iPhones, great value mobile phones and even Android users.

It seems that the delay was worth the wait as the developers worked on giving out a quality application. If you would check the App Store ratings for Skype, in 2 days it has already garnered 1,163 ratings with an average of 4.5 stars.

You can download Skype iPad app on iTunes for free.

The Skype iPad interface is boring and dull, I find it uninspiring. I hope they get more imaginative to make it better next time. It could be an awesome app. Imagine a Flipbook type GUI with VC built-in.

The one significant drawback to Skype compared to Facetime, is that Skype requires the program be active. I can rarely reach anyone on Skype unless they’ve fired it up on their device recently. Factime fortunately lets me reach a friend, or they can call me, with no preplanning. Has this changed in some way?
