Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops and Velociraptors – do these words ring a bell? Yup, they are all dinosaur names. Perhaps you have watched them in blockbuster movies such as Jurassic Park and Godzilla. But what do you know about dinosaurs?

Dinopedia, as its name suggests, is an encyclopedia about dinosaurs. This informative and educational iPad app is specifically designed to cater to young children. It will help kids familiarize themselves with a variety of dinosaurs that once ruled the earth. Here is our complete review:

Dinopedia provides wonderful graphics and sounds that would captivate the kid’s imagination. With its soothing bird sounds, children would feel as if they are in a real jungle. Also through this app, they would certainly enjoy reading and learning about dinosaurs.

According to this app, dinosaurs are categorized into three:

  • Herbivore – ones which only ate plants;
  • Carnivore – dinosaurs which ate meat; and
  • Omnivore – those which ate both plants and meat.

Each category features a number of different dinosaurs. Every page shows a photo of the dinosaur and some interesting facts about it such as the meaning of its name, length, diet, where and when it lived. Dinopedia also gives children an option to read a general summary about dinosaurs and how they disappeared.

But then, I noticed a few misspelled words in this app which is a big disadvantage especially for kids who are still beginning to read and memorize vocabulary words. A thorough proofreading and some additional features would have made this app much better and worth purchasing.

Dinopedia is available on iTunes for $1.99.
