The popularity of the classic board game, Monopoly, hasn’t changed through the years. In fact, it became even better with its iPad app HD version. Here is our complete review:

Monopoly HD has captured the hearts of many since it allows you to live a fantasy life wherein you purchase properties and make good trading deals. The idea of having millions of money and spending it wisely on investment properties made this game a huge success.

This app has a number of special modes. Play Now mode lets you compete against the computer or a human opponent. A maximum of four players are allowed to play a game. You have the power to customize the house rules and choose the difficulty level. If you are not very familiar with this game, the Teacher Mode explains how the game works and provides some helpful tips.

Another wonderful feature of Monopoly HD is its TableTop Mode where you and your friends can play this game traditionally on top of a table without the need to pass or rotate the iPad. It is very convenient as you can play Monopoly anywhere without carrying the actual board game and all its equipment.

Playing Monopoly has never been this simple. There’s basically no need for you to count the paper money, move the tokens, place the wooden or plastic houses and hotels, and distribute the Title Deeds because this app does all the work for you.

You can also play against your friends using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth through its Local Network Play. I was surprised on how easy it is to connect on both functions. I was actually expecting it to fail just like in other online games, but it went on smoothly.

However, the negative aspect that I noticed is that Monopoly HD usually crashes when I’m playing it on iPad 1. I get a bit disappointed and irritated especially when it happens a lot. But then, when I’m using iPad 2, this game never crashed which draws me to a conclusion that this app is more compatible on iPad 2. Without this crashing issue on iPad 1, I would have given this app a perfect score.

Monopoly HD is available on iTunes for 99 cents until July 4. It will be back on its original price of $9.99 after the Independence Day Sale.

Pros – addictive game; awesome sounds and graphics; convenient gaming with its TableTop mode; portrait and landscape modes

Cons – crashing issues on iPad 1

Bottomline

Monopoly HD iPad app renews the classic board game that everyone came to love. With some special modes to choose from, this app definitely gives you enjoyment with every game you play. Though it has crashing problems on iPad 1, Monopoly HD is still an important app to have on your iPad.

does this app definetly NEED a wifi connection? Or can it be played anywhere, in a car for instance on long journeys? I am very tempted to buy this app as i absolutely love monopoly but can never find anyone to play with. Would love it if i could just play whenever, wherever.
    Thanks.

You can play it anytime and anywhere. You only need a WIFI connection if you want to play with your friends who have iDevices through the Local Network Play. But if you’re on your own, you can play against a computer or by yourself without the need to connect to the internet. So this app is definitely a must-have. =)

I have an iPad 1 and I want to play this so badly. It does not sound worth downloading. Has EA ever responded on all these bugs?

Hopefully EA will update it soon and do something with the crashing issues on iPad 1. But as of now, Monopoly still crashes a lot on iPad 1. There are times when you can play a game without it crashing, but other times it just keeps crashing which will leave you frustrated. I’d say, buy it when EA has solved the issue or when you get yourself an iPad 2.
